KIDS HELPING HAITI

As a church it is our desire to encourage our children to reach out to those in need.  In January of this year, Haiti suffered a life changing event as an earthquake devastated Port-au-Prince and outlying areas leaving over one million people homeless.  Haiti has a special place in our hearts at ECC.  We have been contacted about the possibility of providing shelter to help those left homeless from the earthquake.

Our children's Christian formation (Sunday School) classes will be raising money to help with the purchase of tarps and rope to provide temporary shelters.  Our hope is to raise at least $1,000 in a 6-week period to help meet the need for shelter in Haiti.  Our fund drive has already started and will continue through March 28, 2010. 

If you do not have a child in our Christian Education program and would like to participate in this effort, please consider seeking out one of the children at ECC to see if they might be willing to "work" for you for a donation that they can put in their Haiti bank.  Our desire is to help the children see that they are never too youg to help others. 

Labels and lids are available at the Welcome Counter if you would like to make a Haiti bank for yourself.  Everyone is welcome to make a donation to this effort.  Please make checks payable to ECC and put "Kids Helping Haiti" in the memo line.

If you are a parent, below you will find guidelines that will help as you encourage your child(ren) to show God's love by raising money to help us reach our goal.

• All children ages 3 through 5th grade are participating
• Each child has received a label and lid to make a bank using a soup can
• Encourage your child(ren) to earn the money they give (helping with household chores, shoveling driveways, walking the dog or other odd jobs)
• We've discussed sacrificial giving with the children i.e. giving up a trip to McDonalds and eating a peanut butter sandwich (so Mom doesn't have to fix something) and putting the money saved in their bank
• Have your child bring their money each week to their Sunday School teacher so that we know how close we are to meeting our goal
• Have your family pray for the people of Haiti
